Pumpkin Picking

We seem to go at exactly the same time during the month of October every year to go get our pumpkins and this year the weather was about 20 degrees cooler than last year! I was super happy about this because it felt more like an actual fall activity haha

Andie was so excited to go pick pumpkins, especially since we told her she could pick her very own little pumpkin to put in her room ๐Ÿ™‚ We headed straight to the back of Hunt Club Farm where they keep all the little pumpkins for the kids to pick and let her go!

She ended up picking one and then two more because well, Daddy can’t say no to that little girl. Then we went and picked out two larger pumpkins for our front porch. The two extra little pumpkins ended up working out perfectly because they have a spot on our fireplace!

$25 later, we left with our pumpkins and a big smile from our little girl who got to hold her little pumpkin all the way home ๐Ÿ™‚

What are your favorite family fall activities?! Would love some more ideas ๐Ÿ™‚

Ocean Isle Beach, NC

This past week, we were lucky enough to have a relaxing family vacation with some of Daniel’s relatives in Ocean Isle Beach, NC. I’d never been but after our trip, I definitely want to go back! Ocean Isle is about 5.5 hours from us (closer to 6 or so with a toddler who needs potty breaks) and is just south of Wilmington. We brought sandwiches and snacks with us so we didn’t have to stop to eat on the way down (why haven’t we always done that?!) and thankfully, we have the best little traveler – Andie slept for a little while, ate, played on her tablet, and was totally content.

As we drove in to Ocean Isle, you drive over this big bridge and at the top you can see the island with all the water and houses–it was so pretty! Daniel’s dad and stepmom rented a house just 2 rows back from the beach so we were really close to the beach access. The house itself, which I forgot to take a picture of :(, ย had 5 bedrooms and a decent sized pool in the back. It was such a great location and for the majority of the time, there was 7 people and 2 dogs (Daniel’s brother, his wife, and our nephew came the night before we left) which you think would be crowded but it wasn’t at all!

Every day we had a slow morning and then would head to the beach around 11:30. I would pack Andie a lunch so she could eat at the beach under the umbrella and we didn’t have to worry about carting her back and forth to the house. She’d play for a little while and then she happily scarfed down a sandwich and some fruit and would go right back to playing! Daniel brought his longboard so he was able to catch a few waves (I even went out there with him some and stood up a few times haha) and the cutest was watching him stick Andie on there. She ran back to me as they were coming out of the water and said, “Mommy, I’m a surfer girl!” haha ย Andie also always had to have her Aunt Sarah help her jump the waves, Uncle Josh to build drip sand castles, and was attached to Grandma Emma ๐Ÿ™‚ We had perfect weather every day we were there so our beach time was awesome!

We usually headed to the pool after Andie woke up from her nap and would hang out there for a little while and then it was time to shower, get dressed, and have dinner. I think most nights the adults would eat dinner after Andie went to bed and we’d have fun talking, drinking, and eating. On our second to last night, we went out to eat at a place called the Ocean Isle Fish Company–it was SO good. The restaurant was right on the water and the food was delicious. Andie ate really well and we all loved our dishes. Daniel’s dad, our brother-in-law Josh, and Daniel ordered this amazing seafood chowder that I’d love some more of!!

It was just such a relaxing and fun time; we’d all love to go back. We actually have another beach trip coming up in a few weeks with my family in Ocracoke, NC and we’re really looking forward to that as well! You’d think that we would be sick of the beach since we live at the beach but we actually have hardly been this summer! It’s been SO hot that we really haven’t done that many outdoor activities lately so its been nice getting out to the beach and enjoying it because we really love it.

On our way out of Ocean Isle Beach, we stopped to grab some Smithfield’s BBQ to take home with us for dinner that night. Always a good decision so if you’re ever in NC, make sure you do yourself a favor and get some Smithfield’s! We made it back home right at 6 PM, ate dinner, I completely unpacked everything (!!), and had a great night of sleep. Andie didn’t wake up until 9 AM the next morning and Daniel made us pancakes for breakfast so basically it was the best way to get back to reality.

Where’s your favorite place to vacation during the summer??

46 Weeks

We had a fun week! Andie has been loving her Vtech Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker even more and does fast laps all around our downstairs–yay for a new activity to keep her busy for at least 5 minutes! haha

On Friday, Andie and I met my friend Jessica and her daughter Chloe to go for a little hike at the local state park since it was so nice outside. I think we got a good workout pushing those girls in their strollers! haha It was a great time and the girls were so cute. There’s a small beach along the trail we took and we let them sit in the sand–they would barely even look at the camera because they were so interested in the sand haha Adorable! Also, Andie did not want to let go of Chloe…LOL

Saturday, we left to go stay with Daniel’s older brother in Charlottesville for Easter. Andie did pretty good sleeping this time too so I think we are past the whole waking up every hour while traveling thing. WOO! Daniel’s brother is the worship pastor at a church there so that’s where we went for Easter service–it was great! I was a little worried how Andie would do for a whole hour or so during church but she did so awesome. My mother-in-law held her the whole time and she was nice & quiet – so proud of her!! After church we had a big Easter dinner and then we just hung out the rest of the day and went to a park. It was a great weekend with family! Lots of pictures ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello 2015

Happy New Year! I hope most of you are excited about all the possibilities the new year holds–I know I am!! 2014 was a truly amazing year for our family and I’m sad to say goodbye to it but there is something about a new year rolling around that gets me giddy and introspective.

I always make a list of goals at the beginning of the year–kind of like a New Year To-Do List that will hopefully all be checked off by the year’s end. In December I shared some business-y goals I have for 2015 but I thought I’d also share some of my personal ones as well!

1. READ MORE | I’ve always been a huuuuge bookworm and since having Andie, this activity has been almost nonexistent ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I’m happy to report that I’ve already started reading a book (Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn) and am thinking about sharing books I’ve read/thoughts about them on the blog.

2. MAKE A POINT TO SPEND TIME OUTDOORS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE | Andie loves being outside and with the colder weather, we haven’t ventured out much. This year I want to make an effort to take advantage of each beautiful day and enjoy at least some part of it outdoors!

3. EXERCISE | I reeeeally fell off the exercise wagon last year while I was pregnant. I did walk a good deal and since Andie came along I’ve done more walking but not consistently. I’d like to get more serious about walking, running, doing yoga again, and really strengthening my body. I know this goal is kind of obnoxious because it’s everyone’s goal but hey, exercise is important!

4. TAKE MORE PICTURES / LEARN TO USE MY DSLR | Since Andie was born, I’ve naturally taken waaaay more photos than I ever have. Before she came along, we also bought a Nikon D3200 so we would have a camera that would take excellent photos to capture special memories. BUT I need to really learn how to use it so I can get those amazing photos.

5. COOK & BAKE MORE | Another thing I’ve kind of let fall to the wayside. When Daniel is home in the evenings, he really likes to cook and it’s something he feels he’s doing that helps me out (it SO helps!). However, I do enjoy cooking and baking too! I’d love to also make at least one new recipe per week.

6. BE MORE CREATIVE | I want to learn more embroidery techniques, maybe learn a new craft (thinking about knitting, weaving, sewing or all 3!), get back to music, but also be more creative with my time as well as my small business.

7. LOVE THE SPECIAL PEOPLE IN MY LIFE EVEN BETTER | I think one can always learn new ways to love their husbands, wives, kids, friends, etc. even better. If you want love to grow, you need to continue to nurture it.

8. GROW IN MY RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD | I need to make this a priority this year. As of right now, Daniel and I don’t have a church and that’s something we really want to make sure we take care of ASAP. Outside of that, I need to make sure I’m connecting with God and reading the Word daily.

9. GO ON A VACATION | I need one. My husband definitely needs one. I want to make sure we go somewhere together as a family this year–doesn’t need to be fancy or expensive, just time away to be with each other!

10. DECORATE | I think I get caught up thinking that where we’re living is a rental therefore why bother putting a lot of effort in decorating. Yikes. Even though we won’t be in this place forever, we’re living here NOW so I really should make more of an effort….My long term goal is to phase out a lot of our hand-me-downs (nothing is our style but realllly came in handy as newlyweds who didn’t have money to buy a bunch of new furniture!!) and finally decorate our home in our own personal style. First room I want to tackle is our bedroom–I’ve had our bedroom suite since 6th grade….SIXTH GRADE. It’s time to move on.

Do you have goals for 2015? Do we share any of the same ones?? Best of luck to everyone this year!
