So Very Rad

Most of the time I seem to stick to fiction (mainly suspense, mysteries, etc.) but I decided to switch things up this time around–enter, Rad Women Worldwide by Kate Schatz. Normally, biographies tend to totally bore me unless I am extremely interested in the subject, however, this book was such a nice departure from the sometimes all too lengthy biographies that just feel way too drawn out. Kate gives the reader concise and interesting information about each woman in a way that keeps you engaged and inspired.

Kate highlights a total of 40 women from various countries around the world spanning centuries, who have made their mark on the world in one way or another. The illustrations accompanying each biography were done by Miriam Klein Stahl and they are amazing combined with the bold colors — it completely draws you in and it made me even more interested in what I was reading. If you can believe it, Miriam’s papercut illustrations are done using just paper, pencil, and an X-Acto knife!

I think one of my favorite things about this book is the fact that I only knew who a handful of these women were. To me, that means I’m actually learning something and that Kate took her time researching and then showcasing not only well-known women but the not so well-known as well. Rad Women Worldwide also opened my eyes to the fact that we aren’t learning enough about these women in school. Most of our studies are dominated by men and it almost starts to seem like women haven’t had much of an impact on the world which isn’t true at all. Spreading the stories of these strong women from different times and different countries to others gives life to their causes and purpose — it keeps them alive and it breaks boundaries.

I think this book is something every woman should read and own. Learn more about how amazing women can truly be, how inspiring, real, driven, and rad we are. Then pass that down to your daughters and talk to your friends about it!

Kate Schatz has also authored another similar book Rad American Women A-Z that I will definitely be getting my hands on next. You can also check out their website here!

I received this book from Blogging for Books for this review.
