Thank you to everyone who reached out with encouragement in response to my post about Andie’s physical therapy, etc.–it is SO appreciated! We’re still bummed about the whole thing but like I said before, trying to remember the positives.
Andie had her first physical therapy appointment since the assessment yesterday. When we first got there, Angela went back over everything from her assessment and showed us the report and treatment plan she had written up (she also gave us a copy of it).
We learned 2 new exercises to start off with so we’ll be doing those a lot. One exercise is geared towards stretching that tight muscle in her neck–we hold her in the football hold with her facing away from us and have one hand on the top side of her head. From there we gently guide her head to try and get her right ear to touch her right shoulder. The second exercise is geared towards rotation. While Andie is on her back we will have one hand behind her head. We’re supposed to get her attention with a toy and have her follow it all the way to the right and holding that for 30 – 60 seconds. What’s awesome is that I’ve already been doing that at home a lot and so she’s doing pretty well with it!
Andie only did about 20 minutes today at her appointment and it seems that each session is only going to go as long as she can tolerate it. Angela said that over time Andie will gradually tolerate it for longer periods of time and at first, it’s a little harder because everything is new. We also decided to switch our days and times to Mondays & Wednesdays @ 11 because we feel that the morning is a better time for Andie. 1 in the afternoon is around a typical nap time so it’s just not going to work!
Otherwise, Andie is doing pretty well! Her sleep seems to be working itself out. She’s been waking up once during the night and actually earlier this week, she slept through the night 2 nights in a row! Although the night before last she woke up at around 11:45–Daniel was able to pick her up and rock her back to sleep within 10 minutes and then she woke up again at 5 AM to eat and go back to sleep. Last night she woke up at 3 AM, went back to sleep, and got up again at 6 to eat and then back to sleep until about 8:30. Getting better! She’s also discovered that she’s flexible enough to reach her feet and put it in her mouth. New tricks all the time! haha
This morning, Andie had her 4 month Well Check. We always get so anxious because we’re excited to see how much she’s grown since the last time! She weighs exactly 16 lbs which puts her in the 94th percentile for weight and is 26.25 inches long which puts her in the 98th percentile for length! I love looking at the growth chart the doctor shows us each time – its cool to see the leaps and bounds that she’s been growing since she was born! 🙂 The doctor told us that Andie is in the beginning stages of teething…duh duh duh. She said the teeth were still high up but she can see the ridges–makes sense since she’s been drooling SO. MUCH. and chewing on everything. We were also told that we can introduce rice cereal in 2 weeks 2x a day (morning and evening)! That will be exciting and fun to teach Andie how to eat with a spoon haha Can’t wait! She also got more vaccinations today, they were actually the same ones as her 2 month Well Check and she was a champ as usual. Let out her one big cry and as soon as Daddy picked her up there were no more tears! 🙂
I feel like there’s been a lot to go through with a first baby for us so far but she is always such a joy. Probably our most favorite moments are the times when she wakes up from a nap on one of us and as soon as she opens those big, beautiful, blue eyes, she gives us the biggest gummy grin you’ve ever seen. Then we proceed to smother her with kisses and get even more smiles–it is seriously the best! We’ve been enjoying going on walks this past week since the weather has been a little cooler too. I took her out to Mt. Trashmore and walked the whole way around and then yesterday I walked down the main road outside of our neighborhood and back while I wore her in the wrap. She even fell asleep on the way back –it was so quiet and peaceful outside, I don’t blame her! 🙂
